Back-to-(Not!)-School: A Stationery Supplies Haul

Today marks the start of the second academic year since I graduated from college, and man: it still feels so weird that I’m not going “back to school” with everyone else! Though I may now delight in inhabiting a world that’s free from class schedules, homework, and academic advisors, I’ll still find every excuse to go supplies-shopping at the start of the term.

Hey, if I’m spending eight hours at a desk all day, I’m even more in need of cute pens, planners, and stationery, right?

This adorable pink-and-gold organizer caught my eye in the midst of a great hoard of on-sale desk supplies. I’ve used it here to show off my new army of glittery pencils, but in practice, I think it will be perfect for holding my notebooks, planner, and important papers (including the translation of an ancient Assyrian text that I always seem to misplace just when I need it!).

I’m categorizing this new washi tape collection as “office supplies” because I use it to brighten up my planner–nothing makes scheduling class visits and group tours more fun than a little bit of cheerful color!

Of course, it will also play a large role in any mail art that I send out in the near future. I think the gold washi tape will be the perfect complement to the beautiful monarch butterfly stationery that a pen pal sent to me a few weeks ago.

Speaking of color, how could I resist an incredible Michaels sale on a 20-pack of gel pens? No more boring black ink for you, pen pals!

It’s no secret that my current favorite design aesthetic involves messy, handwritten script typefaces paired with minimalist backgrounds. This box of sixteen girl-power themed notecards was a steal at $4, and the envelopes are perfectly sized to fit long letters and little gifts.

With my new need to cat-proof my craft table, I had to acquire a second set of drawers in which to store my stationery treasures: and this four-drawer organizer ($4!) is the best way of hiding anything from eager paws.

Collecting stationery and planner supplies might sound silly, but having cute, colorful things with which to write and organize really improves my mood at work, and makes me more productive. To those of you who also work full-time–how do you decorate your desks? Can washi tape and bullet journals bring more joy to a 9-5 routine? I’d love to hear from you!

Adorable supplies! This is the first year I’m not going back to school and it’s SO WEIRD. I’m going school supply shopping for my brother though to make up for the hole in my heart haha 🙂

I know; it’s so surreal, isn’t it? After basically sixteen years of being in school all the time, it takes a while to adjust to this strange new “adult life”! 🙂

Stationary definitely helps me get through the work. It’s so much more enjoyable to sit at a desk that feels cosy and has personality, I find. I also tend to take more pride in my work when I know it’s neat and tidy!

Exactly! I definitely felt the difference while spending the day in my new, neat workspace today 🙂

Wow! So happy I stopped by to check out your blog! 🙂
Loving the cute washi tapes; i don’t think you could ever have too many! Also, I chuckled at the part about ‘cat-proofing’ your work-space as i too have the same problem! 😉 I sure do love my cat but he does get into my supplies a lot…most often my washi tapes go missing. (he loves to bat them around considering they roll so well!)

Thank you for stopping by! 🙂 I love finding fellow snail mail bloggers! And yes, my cat is quite the stationery rascal: his new addiction is gel pens, which he can happily paw at for hours. I think it’s because mine have this pretty metallic detailing on them that catches the light, rather like the laser toy he chases. Cats!

Collecting stationary is perfectly acceptable! Especially if it’s to make the work day easier. Love that washi tape selection 🙂
(Also, I graduated over the summer and am finding it quite weird that I’m not going back to college!)

Oooh congrats on your graduation! 🙂 It’s a tricky transition to make, to be sure, but I do enjoy being able to spend my evenings doing hobbies instead of homework these days…

That’s true. It is nice these days that I can just read a book and not have to worry about writing an essay at the end of it!

Love the haul! The organizer is so cute!

Thank you! 🙂 My desk looks 500 times better with that lovely organizer around–and it’s already filled up with notebooks and papers after just 2 days in action!

Not exactly “cool” to decorate my desk at work, as I’m a cop reporter. You know, we’re supposed to be tough and stuff 😉 love your haul, though! Glad I found someone as obsessed with stationery as me!

It’s wonderful how big the number of stationery-obsessed people seems to be these days…together we’ll bring back the letter! 🙂
