What’s in my Mailbox? | Pastel + Bats

With the Halloween season coming to a close last week, my incoming mail over the past few days has been equal parts sweet and spooky! These recent letters and gifts from Australia, California, the United Kingdom, and Nevada make up an exciting haul that blends haunting images with happy mail.

I love the soft hues and mixed patterns of this stationery, sent to me by a pen pal in Nevada. (The sheet music, blueprints, and library-style date slip are my favorites among the many designs!)

This charming, vintage-inspired letter, however, was sent in a very Halloween-themed envelope…which you’ll see in a minute!

My most recent correspondence from England takes “vintage” to the next level–it’s a genuine first day cover from the Queen’s 60th birthday in 1986! Just in case I hadn’t figured this out immediately, the envelope designer was kind enough to include a little “open carefully” command to ensure that this collector’s item would be preserved.

The size of the Queen’s birthday envelope allowed my British friend to send me both a nice long letter and some brochures from heritage sites she’d visited recently! Since about the coolest thing I can offer from my area is a trinket from the museum where I work, I’m very appreciative of these little glimpses into her life.

To close, here are a few fun mailings that I received just in time for Halloween! Both the black kitties above and the hand-drawn ghosties on the envelope below embodied the kind of creepy-cute vibe that’s my favorite part of the season.

(Plus, the little die-cuts certainly came in handy for censoring addresses!)

Do you send your pen pals themed mail for the holidays? What tricks (or treats) have you received in your mailbox lately?

Aw, the halloween stuff is so cute 🙂
I missed out on the chance to decorate my mail with halloween themes because a lot of my october mail was birthday themed but I shall be looking forward to all the Christmas decorating I can do for my december mail!

Oh, me too! Cheery holiday envelopes may be the only thing keeping my spirits bright once the miserable Massachusetts winter sets in, haha!

Oh, wow! I love it all! I don’t have a pen pal, but I love reading about these exchanges online. People get so creative and find such cool stuff. 🙂
